Donu Kogbara is one of Nigeria's most respected journalistic voices — a veteran journalist, communications expert, columnist, and public commentator whose four-decade career has spanned some of the world's most respected media institutions. Educated at the University of Leicester, she began her career at the Economist Intelligence Unit before writing for the Sunday Times in London and broadcasting for the BBC World Service. Returning to Nigeria, she became a leading weekly columnist for Vanguard and a contributing writer for The Africa Report. Beyond journalism, Donu has served as Special Assistant to the Minister of Transport, contributed to the Petroleum Industry Bill Committee, and served on the Oil Theft Investigation Panel. Donu Kogbara is a veteran journalist, communications expert, and one of Nigeria's most incisive public commentators. Her career spans four decades, two continents, and some of the world's most respected media institutions — a body of work defined by intellectual rigour, unflinching honesty, and a deep commitment to the African story. Born into a family steeped in public life, Donu pursued her education in the United Kingdom, graduating from the University of Leicester. She began her professional career at the Economist Intelligence Unit — an environment that forged her analytical instincts and her habit of demanding evidence behind every assertion. She went on to write for the Sunday Times in London before joining the BBC World Service, where her voice reached audiences across Africa and beyond. These early years gave her a rare dual perspective: the rigour of British editorial standards combined with the lived experience of African realities. Returning to Nigeria, Donu became a leading columnist for Vanguard, Nigeria's most widely-read newspaper, where her weekly columns on politics, governance, culture, and society have made her one of the country's most talked-about commentators. She is also a contributing writer for The Africa Report, the continent's leading English-language political and business magazine. Donu's influence extends beyond journalism. She served as Special Assistant to the Minister of Transport, bringing her communications expertise to the highest levels of Nigerian government. She has been a member of the Petroleum Industry Bill Committee, the Oil Theft Investigation Panel, and has contributed to the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority — demonstrating a consistent commitment to national development alongside her media career. As founder of African Access, she leads a pan-African communications consultancy that has advised governments, corporations, NGOs, and international organisations on strategy, messaging, and public affairs across the continent. On screen, Donu is a sought-after commentator on Nigerian and African affairs, appearing regularly on Al Jazeera, Sky News, Channel 4, Arise News, and other international platforms. She is also the host of Donu's World, a YouTube channel featuring two original series — Nigeria Unfiltered (every Wednesday) and Donu's Week (every Friday) — and a regular panelist on the Africa Here and Now podcast. Donu Kogbara lives in Abuja, Nigeria.
